This week, we learned how proportions and grid based systems can provide structure to a design, and successfully communicate with the audience. Alongside this, we also look at the Fibonacci Sequence and the Gestalt Principles of Visual Perception.
The golden ratio is a mathematical method used by designers to create (what could be considered) successful design ideas. It’s proportions follow the Fibonacci Sequence (0, 1,1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 etc) and makes use of phi (1.61803398875). The structure below demonstrates this.
“The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio. It is commonly found in nature, and when used in a design, it fosters organic and natural-looking compositions that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.” Canva
After studying this structure, we created some screens to demonstrate our understanding. We had to use the 0, 1,1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 etc form of the Fibonacci Sequence. For point, include 2 circles per screen. For line, we had to include 3 lines per screen. For plane, we had to include 9 planes per screen. I have included my work below.
